The UN’s climate chief has warned there are two years to save the world, as he urged Britain and other rich nations to produce stronger environmental plans to cut emissions.

Simon Stiell, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, said the next two years were pivotal because of “record shattering heat” and a race between countries to “a new clean energy economy”.
