The Law Commission is consulting on what legal and practical obstacles exist to data sharing between public bodies.  The consultation is open until 16 December 2013, with the findings due in spring 2014.  The Law Commission seeks views on a series of questions including whether the current law on data sharing is sufficiently clear and certain, whether there are inappropriate obstacles and whether there is the right balance between the ability to share data and the protection of privacy.  The consultation is available on the Law Commission’s website.  This consultation will be of interest to staff within colleges and universities working in information governance or otherwise involved in data sharing.
