Latest news on the EU data reform
With the European Parliament closed for the summer break the ICO’s Deputy Commissioner and Director of Data Protection, David Smith, has published a blog providing his latest thoughts on the EU Data Protection reforms.
The reforms are currently the subject of negotiations between the European Commissioner, the council and the parliament with many difficult issues still needing to be agreed upon. These range from the meaning of ‘pseudonymous’ data, to the size of the proposed fines for serious breaches of a future data protection law.
In the blog David explains that, while there are challenges ahead, there is still more to be welcomed than rejected in the proposals and our office remains hopeful that the negotiation process will be successfully completed before the spring.
