Wood has been selected as a contractor by Net Zero Teesside Power (NZT Power) and Northern Endurance Partnership (NEP) for integrated project management services. NZT Power, which aims to be one of the world’s first commercial scale gas-fired power stations with carbon capture, could generate up to 860 MW of flexible, dispatchable, low-carbon power equivalent to the average electricity requirements of around 1.3 million UK homes.
Up to 2 million tpy of CO2 would be captured at the plant and then transported and securely stored by the NEP in subsea storage sites beneath the North Sea. It is anticipated that around 4 million tpy of CO2 from the East Coast Cluster carbon capture projects served by the NEP’s CO2 transportation and storage infrastructure would be transported and stored from 2027.
Julie Rae, Vice President of Oil, Gas and New Energies at Wood, said: “We are delighted to be partnering with NZT Power and NEP to support the development of programmes to reduce emissions, provide cleaner energy and capture millions of tons of CO2 a year. These programmes provide great opportunities for the next generation of engineers and we are proud to be part of the solution.”
Wood is one of nine leading specialist contractors that have been selected for engineering, procurement and construction contracts with a combined value of around £4 billion. This selection marks a major milestone for the Teesside-based projects, which would contribute to the UK’s journey towards net zero emissions by 2050.
